Last day of ITR filing: Twitterati vent pain in filing ITR on new tax portal

Today, i.e, December 31, 2021, is the last date to file income tax return (ITR) for FY 2020-21. However, from the past few days individual taxpayers, chartered accountants and other tax experts have been complaining about the many glitches still persisting in the functioning of the newly launched income tax portal because of which taxpayers and CAs have been finding it difficult to complete the ITR filing process with some even finding it difficult to just log in to the site. Due to this, many have been asking for an extension of the ITR filing deadline and Twitter seems to be flooded with such requests.

They are raising their issues with the hashtag ‘Extend due date’ and ‘Extend due date immediately’. Here is what they are saying on Twitter.

One Twitter user, @/ImCA_chintan said “Thank you @/Infosys and @/IncomeTaxIndia for such a wonderful portal, new errors and new glitches every day. #Extend_Due_Date_Immediately”

Another user, @/caamresh said, “Glitches, technical failure, beyond capacity, bugs, errors, UDIN deferred ….many more . Picture abhi baki hai Babu Moshay @IncomeTaxIndia @nsitharaman @/PMOIndia @/Infosys #Extend_Due_Date_Immediately”

One user complained about filing ITR, being unable to download ITR and portal stating tax return not found.

Another user complained about ITR not reflecting on the new income tax portal and no resolution despite raising the grievance.

One user complained about income tax return forms not opening on the new income tax portal

One user complained about not being able to verify income tax returns.

Another user, @/casubhashsharma said, “#Extend_Due_Date_Immediately Please extend ITR filing due dates. If the portal is ok in all respect to file ITR from 1st April onwards, no extension will be required. This time the portal was available to public for filing from Oct- Nov 2021.”

One user complained about being unable to log in into the income tax portal.

Twitter is flooded with multiple similar complaints.

The government has extended the deadline for filing GST returns for FY 2020-21 by two months. However, it is yet to be seen whether the ITR filing deadline will be extended today.
